Twilight of Our Prime
We woke this morning below a guillotine
There’d been fair warning, but not that we had seen
We’d been too drunken to watch the dangling blade
The fall’s so sudden, no execution’s stayed
The only truth we ever found is that our youth is gonna drown
In the ocean of sodden dreams
Now it's the twilight of our prime, we’ll see in hindsight it’s a crime
That we could not find the sublime in every minute
Now it's the twilight of our prime, we get a finite happy time
But it's a gift to which we're blind when we are in it
Heat-seeking missiles are tearing through the sky
Our pride will kindle a temperature so high
Wherever we go, the rockets will be bound
Our blazing ego is too cool to cool down
Monotony is special when I'm sharing it with you
It's practically essential to a love that's really true
We're so inconsequential in the glory of it all
So don't get sentimental when there's nothing to recall
