Just an Echo
We can say it all with silence
More than that is just white noise
Every word’s an act of violence
The lack of them is utter joy
They are like stones breaking the surface of water
They are like lambs leading us down to the slaughter
Is this love or just an echo?
You look at me with such conviction
You’d have a nonbeliever fooled
The key is still in the ignition
Even when the engine’s cooled
The sculptures of ice are fanning the flames of temptation
They melt in the night to puddles of infatuation
The future that we dare to promise
Is ricocheting in our minds
At least the way we lie is honest
I’d gladly leave my doubts behind
Between you and me, we’d furnish a whole cemetery
With old souvenirs we’d be so much wiser to bury
